This month’s Reflection from Revd Tish Bird

June 2026                 Ephesians 2:13-22

The first 12 verses of this Chapter speaks of the Gentiles who were cut off from God’s promises; divided and unruly, living without hope.  Excluded, until the Grace of God offered a way to Salvation, with a repeated reminder of our lives before His Grace.  The rest of the passage above directs us to become One in Christ; reconciled through the cross, and emphasising Christ as the Cornerstone – the essential foundation – which, with all of us disciples working together spiritually for His sake, becomes a dwelling place for God.

As our world becomes frailer and more unstable, regular reminders of Christ with us can be helpful.  His Love, Grace, Healing and Blessings marked His earthly ministry, expanding divinely to enable and confirm His place in our lives today – and our place in continuing His life and Work.

Whether during present or globally challenging times, or an additional form of private worship to engage with the living Lord, you may find this exercise helpful:

Close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath.

Using your senses, try to imagine different aspects of the life and ministry of Jesus leading up to and through His ultimate sacrifice and on, as He divinely continues to break down divisions between people and nations as a way to reconcile humanity.

Take a deep, slow breath and open your eyes.

If something particular speaks to you during this exercise, take a moment to reflect on how and why it is meaningful for you …. Is there something you need to share or take direct action on in your discipleship, or perhaps reflect further on as you develop a deeper relationship with God?

Give thanks that Christ is always alongside and within, no matter what!

Loving God, the depth of your love for us is unfathomable and we offer our thanks, worship and praise.  Open our eyes and direct us to daily take our place here on earth as Your hands and feet.

We pray for reconciliation, integrity and peace throughout the world, that your loving and healing Light may be seen in even the darkest of places.

In the name of Christ we pray, Amen.

“So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God,  built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone;  in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord,  in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God”  (v19-22)
