A series of talks for Lent arranged by Churches Together in Charlbury, to be held on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Parish Church.
11 March – Prof. Markus Bockmuehl on ‘The Light of the World’. Markus has recently edited a new book about Holman Hunt’s famous picture.
18 March – Revd. Dr Nick Wood on ‘Jesus through the eyes of other faiths’. Nick is a Baptist minister with long experience of inter-faith relations. He will be speaking about Jesus from the perspective of non-Christian faiths. As a Baptist minister he was the Vice-Moderator of the Commission on Baptist Muslim Relations of the Baptist World Alliance and from 2015-2020 served in the same role on the revised Commission for Interfaith Relations. He is honorary Vice-President of the Christian Muslim Forum (England) and until recently was a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain’s inter-faith working group. We may be surprised by the respect in which Jesus is held by other faiths and what they learn from his life and teaching. Please arrive promptly for 7.30pm start. There is no admission charge but donations will be gratefully received towards expenses.
25 March – Roger Wagner, artist and poet, on ‘The Flowering Tree’. Roger will be illustrating his talk from his own paintings and poetry.
1 April – Revd. Esther Lay on ‘Meeting Christ in poetry’. Esther is Rector of Wooton near Woodstock and a prize-winning poet.
8 April – Revd. Dr Elizabeth Koepping on ‘Jesus across the Christian world’. Elizabeth is a social anthropologist, university teacher and priest.
